When it comes to planning your wedding you’re going to have a lot of ideas and hear a lot of opinions. There’s no one-size-fits-all solution to this – you have to decide on your vision and then build towards making it a reality. There are so many options when it comes to planning your wedding.

It’s going to be difficult and for sure to have gone through some wedding websites for “Wedding Checklists” to keep you sane and organized. But there are some things that you also need to know before you proceed with your wedding plans that not everyone will remind you of.

A wedding celebration is one day. Marriage is hopefully forever.

For some reason, every bride wants her wedding to be the talk of the town (if not among her family or circle of friends). This makes you want to have a bigger and better wedding than your friend’s or sister’s. Not that we don’t want you to celebrate to your heart’s content, we just want you to remember that this is just a day in your lifetime and you have a marriage ahead of you. Don’t spend all of your savings on your wedding day and be broke for the rest of your life. That is not the way to start your life together. So don’t succumb to the comparison game. Your marriage is unique and your wedding is unique. Be true to yourself and your wedding budget. Do not spend beyond your means.

Don’t try to do it all by yourself.

We get it. You want to make this your ultimate Do It Yourself project. But don’t do it all alone, unless you are super organized and have all the time in the world. Get your fiancé, family and friends involved because planning a wedding can be time-consuming and stressful and when the stress builds up, wedding planning won’t be fun anymore. Wedding planning is a great time to bond with your entourage and a chance for them to know the “team”. Create memories with the people close to your heart while planning the wedding of your dreams.

Don’t neglect your mental health.

Wedding planning can be stressful especially if you have other things going on in your life. Don’t forget to take a break. Do some fun stuff, exercise and have your “me” time. You don’t really have to go out and spend to enjoy yourself. Doing things that you love to do can lessen the stress such as watching Netflix, reading your favorite book, or simply listening to beautiful music while doing deep breathing exercises.

Another way to relieve stress is by using essential oils while meditating. If you have a diffuser, fill up to the line of the water reservoir with clean distilled water and add 5 to 6 drops of your favorite essential oil, turn it on, close your eyes and drift to your quiet place. If a diffuser is not available, place a few drops of essential oils in the palms of your hands, rub them together, cup over your nose, and take deep breaths. Brides of Simply Beautiful Events get a 5ml diluted essential oil that they can use anytime, anywhere to help them with their wedding anxiety and sleep.

Don’t neglect your fiancé.

Is the wedding planning stressing your fiancé? Be mindful of their mood, attitude, and stress. Are they still eating and sleeping on time? Be sure to check on your fiancé once in a while. Too much wedding planning can add stress to your relationship as well.

Don’t ignore red flags.

Online wedding scam are so prominent these days so watch out for vendors who do not want to have video calls with you, would hide behind a company logo as their profile photo, or doesn’t declare their office address. These are just some of the reasons why attending an actual bridal fair such as Before I Do: Wedding and Debut Fair is important. You get to meet actual people behind the logo and sit down with them to discuss your concerns right there and then. And while you’re at it, go over and discuss your concerns with their contract (if there are any). Check it, double or even triple-check it and make sure that you understand their terms and conditions, especially the clause on event postponement or cancellation.

And on the other hand, watch out for red flags on how you and your fiance handle money matters and decision-making. Do you compromise? Do you listen to each other? Planning a wedding is a stage in your relationship that gives you a glimpse of how things will be after your honeymoon. So address it now or forever hold your peace.

Don’t forget to do your research.

It all boils down to budget. Before you even book your church, you have to decide how much you are willing to spend for your wedding. Visit www.beforeidobridalfair.com and download our Wedding Budget Planner to help you with your budget. Don’t worry. It’s free!

Visiting a bridal fair gives you an idea of how much a certain service would cost (gown, catering, cake, invitations, etc.). You don’t have to book vendors on your very first visit. You can just go around and collect brochures, go home, and compare. Check out their work on their websites, their rates, who they have worked with, whether are they legit, do they match your taste. Attend FREE food tasting events such as one of Hizon’s Catering at Before I Do. It gives you a chance to taste exquisite dishes and compare their offerings with other caterers. Reserve your seats by registering at www.beforeidobridalfair.com. Wedding vendors would showcase their products and services at bridal fairs and attending one allows you to visualize your wedding.

Narrow down your choices and use the Wedding Budget Planner to determine if you are still within your budget.
