I first got to talk to Jovit months before he got our services. It was an interview that I will never forget. He was throwing weird questions at me… weird because it was the first time that I heard such questions from a groom.

Questions like:

  • I want my bride to wear a moss green wedding gown. Will there be a problem?
  • I want an early morning wedding around 5am. Is that okay?
  • I want my bride to be the only one to walk. Is that possible?

After a long talk via Skype I never heard from him again for months. Until one day, I got a long distance call from an unregistered number. I thought it was my mom calling from California. When he introduced himself, he asked me if I still remember him and I said: “Yes. You’re the one who wants his wife to walk down the aisle wearing a moss green wedding gown”.

And with that, he was happy to hear that even after months of no communication I still remember him.  I asked him why he decided to get us and why only now. It was because after months of sourcing all possible Wedding Planners, he realized that I’m the only one who didn’t object with what he wanted for his wedding. Everything he threw at me, I threw back with a “Yes!” or “Not a problem” but at the end I was able to convince him to change the time of their wedding which was a major concern for everyone.

What changed his mind re the wedding gown and Meldz walking down the aisle, that I do not know.

I only got to coordinate with the bride, Meldy, for just a few days (a handful of days). It was Jovit who did most of the coordination with me. He is a very, very hands-on groom. How hands-on? Obsessive Compulsive (OC) hands-on. If others are okay with emails, he’s not contented with that. He CALLS his suppliers even if he’s based overseas.

I can’t blame him. Being based overseas and preparing for your wedding is very hard because you will just rely on emails, pictures and trust.

It took some time for me to get used to having an OC groom but it paid off. For some of our suppliers, it was hard to work with him but with me, it wasn’t. He may be demanding but he always has a point. When he knows that he’s at fault, he immediately accepts his mistakes and takes responsibility for it. Unlike other grooms or clients who will never say they’re sorry. I am truly lucky to have such a client who is understanding and equally patient with me.

Everyone (suppliers) was waiting and wishing me luck on his wedding day thinking that Jovit will give me a headache but come wedding day, everything was a breeze. Well, there were some things that I had to trouble shoot on the day itself (had to go down on my knees with a needle and thread just to get rid of the ugly packaging tape to hold the red carpet in place, had the salad bar replaced – he wants ice all over to keep the greens fresh and come up with instant offertory flowers) but generally, it was the most stress free wedding we ever had! No joke!
